Margaret Kurnyk – Director
Margaret joined GSML after having worked at an archives and public library. Margaret is a Willimantic native and is happy to be working close to home by serving her community. As a young girl, Margaret used to visit GSML to check out books and movies, and attend programs out on the lawn.
Margaret eared her Masters of Library and Information Science at Simmons College in 2017. She is always happy to be at the circulation desk, and loves chatting with patrons and helping Kim and Sarah with projects.
Kim – Children’s Librarian
I began my library career in 1992 at a small community library similar to Guilford Smith Memorial. I joined the team here in 2013 wanting to return to that hometown feel where servicing patron’s needs are top priority. I receive satisfaction and joy assisting the patron’s, being creative and encouraging the youth to develop a love for reading.
Kim was also interviewed by the Hartford Current, please read the article here.

Sarah joined the Guilford Smith Memorial Library staff after teaching first grade for ten years in Canterbury. As a life-long lover of books, she brings this love and enthusiasm for reading to her position at the library. Helping patrons find information or the perfect book is something Sarah takes great pride in. Sarah enjoys doing crafts and being creative, and has had fun planning and implementing programs for teens and younger children.
